Tutoring at Norwich City College:

Photographic evidence of our Correspondents with Norwich city College:

During BA3 I have had the opportunity to work as a tutor at city college. It was a great opportunity to enhance student knowledge on fine art practice and how this can be applied to a photographic practice. The tutor Craig wanted a new and fresh view on photography in an attempt to encourage the students to move from traditional areas of photography to a more artistic licence. The first few sessions where purely a chance to explain to the students who we are and what we do in our practice. We then explored this through a photographic medium, and got the students to share with us there individual practices, looking to see if we can help in anyway artistically or interms of artistic research. I then suggested to Craig that we could hold a a light workshop bringing in my collection of lights and exploring artistic ways of using them to enhance photography. Most of the students where doing coloured photography for there a level exam. So it was an ideal opportunity to gain some experience. Teaching the workshop was a great success and some interesting outcomes arose. Hopefully we helped in some way to enhance the students productivity and creativity within the boundaries of the artistic licence of the space. We where eventually given the opportunity to be CRB checked opening up a range of new possibilities to explore teaching in and out of City College. We engaged with the students and staff and discovered and explored all aspects of the practice and the teachings type, discussing the stress of institutions such as City College to maintain high academic standards and to encourage students to progress further into education .
